You need to focus on seeding your main subject matter keyword in your ad and then find long tail keywords to supplement the ad as well. Google LOVES content that reflects the subject matter. ie:

Car
Blue Car
Audi
V8
Acceleration

These are all keywords that compose the main subject of car and thus will attract Google even more to the page. Use either a free keyword tool like google’s keyword search tool or a paid one, like keyword research professional.

To increase feedback: lots of inexpensive items.

To become a powerseller: Expensive items. I became a powerseller in 37 days by selling off returns from my store and my old electronics I had laying around.

Best advice ever: Don’t worry so much about feedback or Powerseller status. Worry about making money

Yes you are correct, it is indeed expensive, other disadvantages of advertising is/are, less catchy it is less potential customers will come, low budget advertisement are often disregarded by the consumer, consumer is a perfectionist, so if the advertisement is not that perfect no potential customer/s will buy your product or go on what you are advertising. These are examples of the disadvantages of advertising. Hope that I helped!

Try local pickup, or through a company other than USPS.

Here is the reference for butterfly knives being illegal to send via USPS, btw butterfly knives are illegal in California and Mass, so don’t purchase them if you are living there:

“It is also illegal to send butterfly knives through the U.S. Postal Service. Spyderco, a knife manufacturer, recently pleaded guilty in a U.S. Federal court case for sending butterfly knives in the mail between June 2005 and January 2007, and the company was fined $ 75,000.”

Well, first of all, EBay doesn’t sell anything, they just enable a private seller and a private buyer to connect with each other, that’s all.

I cannot imagine why it would be illegal to send a knife through the mail, but, if it is, then just use UPS or Fedex or some other method of shipping.

The two major considerations are:
1) what are you going to offer (Do you have the skills or can you get them)
2) Do you have the business knowledge to operate a business?

For the first item – you should put together a portfolio of what you can do for a client – whatever you make for people to see will say a lot about whether they hire you. Looks are important.

For the second item – marketing, management, finance – while a small business – you still need to do these things and you won’t have help by hiring someone – so you’r best bet is to go directly to your local SBDC (Small Business Development Center) and ask for help in preparing for your business -it is free and you can really use their help no matter how much you already know.

WIRED just featured an article about eBay in this most recent issue. eBay is making money, but not on it’s auctions. They released the figures that 31% of eBay is auctions, the rest is buy it now. It used to be that you had to go to the marketplace to search for items (go to ebay, search for hummel). Now you can use your search engine to find shopping results (go to google, search for hummel, search under shopping).

eBay is not where eBay is getting it’s money. It’s PayPal. PayPal is 99% of all eBay transactions, and then 10-25% of most internet sales. PayPal is an eBay Company, which is where it’s getting the money.

Websites such as Auction Bytes and other anti-eBay blogs are filled with stories of people who are miserable selling on eBay. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t thousands of people very successful on eBay!
The haters would have you believe that eBay is in it’s final days, but it definitely isn’t.

The criteria on eBay has changed. In the past bids were the focus of their loyal customers; now, “buy-it-now” is most important.

Additionally, lowest prices means a lot, and so do using the right keywords in the title.

Finally, a strategy that works for some : customers will pay more for an item IF you give free shipping AND 100% refund guarantee if they send the item back; when you do this, keep your prices higher, but note you won;t get many refunds if your listing is honest, and worded in the customers’ favor!
